Kratom’s popularity is growing every day, and there is a lot of information about it: what are the effects, what are the chemical compounds and active ingredients, doses, strains, and many others. But along with that, it is crucial to bear in mind that Kratom is a plant that has been studied quite poorly and different scientists and authorities in that world have different opinions about it. That means that Kratom is not legal everywhere and it has three statuses in countries around the world:

  • Legal
  • Illegal
  • Under control (or under observation)

So you must always keep that in mind and be wary of the legal status of Kratom in the country you live in so to avoid legal problems.

The countries we will be talking about today are from Europe, Asia, and the U.S.

Australia

Unfortunately, starting from 2005 Australian law has prohibited the sale, purchase, and use of Kratom for it being dangerous as they state. So if you live in Australia, you won’t be able to buy it legally, and if you try to buy and use it, you will be faced with legal problems.

Burma (Republic of the Union of Myanmar)

Kratom is illegal to grow, sell and use in the Republic of Myanmar, so, unfortunately, you won’t be able to buy it there without facing legal problems.

Canada

Kratom in Canada is legal to grow, purchase, sale, and use. Also, Canadians tend to grow their own as well as accepting shipments from Indonesia or Malaysia. You can buy Kratom there from your local vendor, or buy fresh leaves from growers. You can also grow your Kratom, and if you want you can purchase it online as an import is legal in Canada.

The legal status of Kratom in Finland is quite unclear; it is illegal to buy, so you won’t be able to order shipments as they will be banned in the border and the law prohibits the sale inside the country, but also there is some information that you must have a prescription to buy it. So if you live in Finland, you won’t be able to enjoy it as much as you like, if at all.

Kratom status

You could have it shipped to Germany, but now the laws changed, and the substance is not under control as unlicensed medicine; that means that you might get it from your local vendor, but you cannot have shipments delivered to Germany as they will not be allowed into country, so if you have a local vendor that can supply you inside the country you are quite lucky.

Israel

Kratom was legal in Israel up to 2013; after that, they stated that it is a recreational drug and poses a danger to users and made its status illegal. They also did not give any hope about the further legalization of Kratom as they stated that it is not known for medical purposes in this country.

Lithuania

Kratom status in Lithuania is illegal, so you won’t be able to buy it at all; or without facing any legal issues.

Romania

Kratom was legal in Romania up to 2010, where it was banned for being a dangerous recreational drug as they state.

Russia

Russia has a very unclear position about Kratom as some sources state that it is legal where another state it is illegal. What one must know that Kratom is under control in Russia, so it would be wise to be careful using or buying it there?

South Korea

Kratom is illegal in South Korea, and it is heavily regulated, so no sales or import of it are allowed there; as the laws are extremely strict there you should possess Kratom there as you could be faced with harsh penalties

Thailand

Being the motherland of Kratom and using it traditionally for hundreds or thousands of years, Thailand came to a conclusion to make Kratom illegal and destroyed many plantations. If you get caught chewing Kratom left there you might as well have many legal problems; the so-called “Thai Kratom” really comes from Indonesia.

United Kingdom

Kratom in England is under control and imports are not made there. It is still unclear whether it is illegal there or not.

 Indonesia

Italy

Italy has a legal status on Kratom, and people living there can purchase Kratom with no worries.

Netherlands

Netherland are always welcome to new and interesting things, so they have a legal status on Kratom, which you can always buy from local vendors at smart shops; it is also one of the largest suppliers in Europe.

The U.S.A.

The U.S. has many states, and not all of them forbid Kratom.

States that have an illegal status on Kratom are:

  • Indiana
  • Tennessee
  • Vermont
  • Wisconsin

The rest of the states have a legal status on Kratom, and you can freely buy, grow, sell Kratom there, or order from online vendors.
