Birmingham Hip Resurfacing in India by Dr. Bose
Larry Hoffman, Butte, MT
Postponing my hip surgery was no longer possible. For months I had masked the pain with pain relievers in order to keep working. In researching hip replacement surgery, I learned about a newer and better procedure, hip resurfacing. I tried to find a doctor close to home, but couldn’t find one with enough experience to give me confidence. I went on the internet, did a lot of research, and kept coming across recommendations for Dr. Bose at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, India. I started making arrangements to go there with another medical tourism company, but then switched to WorldMed Assist after finding out the first one was not upfront and honest with me about charges. I chose WorldMed Assist after a thumbs up from several of their patients. Janet from WorldMed Assist is a registered nurse and was great—made everything very easy.
Compared with $70,000 quotes I got in the U.S., my total cost was just over $11,000, everything included. People that live closer to a major airport would probably spend even less. The incredible thing about India is that an uninsured person gets the best medical care for the lowest cost. Sure, it’s far, but Janet from WorldMed Assist was always there to help me. I would highly recommend them to other patients.
It was not an easy trip from India back to Montana. However, the high quality of medical care in India, among the best in the world, with the artistry of Dr. Bose, makes that all a distant memory now. After the bandage came off, the incision measured only seven inches long and will heal without a scar. I have no limitations on normal activities and am walking and driving at two weeks past surgery. Recovery was extremely fast with very low pain levels.
At this point, four weeks post-op, I can't tell one leg from the other. I’m a mining engineer, and I am now walking the full extent of the mine both ways (2000 feet with a 300 foot drop), which I hadn't been able to do for over three months. I've been hiking and rock climbing with my grandson at 6500 feet elevation on the Continental Divide.
I have my life back, with no limitations due to the hip or surgery. My grandsons are delighted to have their Papa keeping up with them again. I almost feel guilty talking to people who have had unnecessary Total Hip Replacements and will never be the same. I am a zealous missionary for Hip Resurfacing, spreading the word as fast as I can. |
